SimplyCats Vet Clinic SimplyCats and Endoscopy

An endoscope is a device with a light and camera that is used to look inside a body cavity or organ.  This piece of equipment came in particularly useful when examining Whiskey who had been wretching and coughing for several days, on examination under general anaesthetic using the endoscope we were able to see a blade of grass lodged in his larynx (voice box), we were also able to look inside his trachea (wind pipe) and oesophagus and check for any further foreign bodies or damage.

SimplyCats Vet Clinic SimplyCats goes to Flamingo Land

On Saturday 22nd August, Claire and Sarah from SimplyCats  took a day trip to Flamingo Land. We braved the rollercoasters, log flumes and rides, whilst at the park we visited the Lion and Tiger enclosures to see whether or not the big cats had scratching posts, as we all know cats need a scratch post and even the big cats at Flamingo Land had scratching facilities :-)

For more information on scratching behaviour please click here for an article we wrote for our Mewsletter, to sign up to receive the Mewsletter please contact us by clicking here and we will add you to our mailing list.

SimplyCats Vet Clinic SimplyCats Dubby’s Diet Diary

Those of you who have signed up to receive our Mewsletter (Click here to view the Mewsletter) will  already know that my cat  is on a diet. His name is Dubby (thats the word ‘Chubby’ in disguise). He weighed in at a whopping 9.17kg a fortnight ago (thats over 20 pounds). I have tried several brands of diet food but none for this particular cat seemed to be working for a steady weight loss – though he certainly enjoyed eating them!! After a fortnight of feeding mainly tin with a tiny bit of dry the scales started to go in the right direction. there were squeals of elation when he had lost 180grammes. Hopefully this trend will continue!

SimplyCats Vet Clinic SimplyCats Pierre Update

I am delighted to report that little Pierre (our mystery kitten) is going from strength to strength and growing more mischievous and adventurous by the day. He continues to chase our other two cats Mouse and Cobweb from one end of the garden to the next and then sprints up a tree to peer out like a little vexed gremlin. The plan was for him to have an external fixator applied to his poorly leg with the intention of fusing his knee joint however after recent consultations with the vet, a decision has been made to defer the procedure to see how he progresses so fingers crossed he gets more control and strength in his hind leg. He is being fed on fish and chicken, but not just any chicken, it has to be Marks and Spencer chicken. He has been bought a selection of kitten toys from various family members who all want to spoil him but my husband refuses to allow him to wear a powder blue collar with white hearts on it – why ever not?

SimplyCats Vet Clinic SimplyCats: Harriet the Hedgehog update

Just a quick update on harriet, the rescued amputee hedgehog – She has been on a regular round of the garden, hoovering up the slugs, much to my delight. I have had to sit in the summerhouse for over an hour after dark to watch her. My husband is looking to install an infra-red camera somewhere in the garden to capture more of her movements as she usually refuses to venture out in the prescence of humans and before nightfall. The photo below is where she is usually hiding

SimplyCats Vet Clinic SimplyCats: Foreign Bodies

On 27th July we met Bruce who had been coughing and wretching for several days, the vet at SimplyCats performed a thorough examination and no foreign bodies were visible up his nose. It was decided to monitor Bruce for a couple of days then the vet would re-examine him and possibly anaesthetise Bruce for full examination and x-rays to see if there were any hidden foreign bodies. Much to his owner’s delight on Monday 3rd August, Bruce had coughed up a 15cm blade of grass! He is now doing much better.
